Alesha Dixon – The Boy Does Nothing & High School Musical 3
October 7, 2008
This is such a huge hit. It sounds like mambo No5, but better, cooler, funkier. Man that girl can dance. I was lucky enough to have a sneaky preview of the video for The Boy Does Nothing, and it lives up to expectations. Here’s a link to the audio for the track.
Talking of top pop tracks, here’s a clip of one of the tracks from the new High School Musical movie. Book your tickets for the opening night as I hear it’s the most pre-booked movie ever. The stars are in town for the premiere night tonight, I remember the night I went to see the first High School Musical premiere – work made me go and I remember thinking all the things I’d rather be doing than spending my day watching a Disney movie….. and I took my partner and we almost ended up singing and dancing in the aisle during the movie. Now I’m a huge fan. No pretending. And if you haven’t watched it, watch it, then judge!
Lots of new fun additions this week to the Radio 1 playlist… you can feel it’s getting to that time of year where record companies have saved up all their special tracks and albums to release for Christmas stocking time! Bring it on… we love it, where’s the Jingle Bells! So much to digest… will Adele’s new track be less irriating than everything else she’s ever done? Here’s a horrible You Tube video for you to make up your own mind:
· * Adele
· Make Your Feel My Love
· * Coldplay
· Lost!
· * Miley Cyrus
· 7 Things
· * Guru Josh Project [d/l : 27/10]
· Infinity 2008
· * The Killers [d/l : 10/11]
· Human
· * Scouting For Girls
· I Wish I Was James Bond
· * Vampire Weekend
· A-Punk
· * Late of the Pier
· Bathroomm Gurgle
· * Red Light Company [d/l : 3/11]
· Scheme Eugene
What’s really crazy is that the Guru Josh Project with Infitity 2008 have had over 5 million views at their You Tube page. That’s seriously mental. That’s a lot of people. These euro dance Basshunter stylee tracks do so well online…
Scouting For Girls – I Wish I Was James Bond & Glastonbury
October 2, 2008
Yet another Scouting For Girls single hits the airwaves this week – I Wish I Was James Bond.
I adore SFG. At Glastonbury 2007 I saw them with about 25 other people on a tiny unpublicised stage and they were brilliant. Then at Glastonbury 2008 they played in front of about 30,000 people. I think I’m actually slightly addicted to them. Everytime I’ve seen them they just get better. Yes I know all the tracks sound the same, but that’s the reason they’re so bloody good, because everyone gets up and dances and sings along. Such a good party band, and great pop songs.
There’s no video for this track yet, but here’s a James Bond montage to the track.
How many singles have they had from this album though, they just keep on coming? Maybe they are going to pull a Thriller and release them all. There’s the track about Michaela Stracken and the other one about He Man, both of which are great they haven’t released yet. Here’s a track about Glastonbury that’s not on the album, but they keep playing live, apparently inspired by that first year I saw them play in front of only 25 people…
Boyzone – Love You Anyway
October 1, 2008
I can’t believe I let this one slip me by, considering a) how much I loved Boyzone (particularly Stephen Gately ten years ago – perhaps in preparation to be the fag hag that I am today) and b) because it’s a pretty good pop song. I feel sorry for Boyzone though. Watch the video and you’ll kind of understand, the songs great – but Stephen gets a bit keeno with the dancing, you kind of want to tell him to calm down a bit. Overenthusiasm me thinks.
It’s not really fair that they aren’t getting any radio play, I blame it on the crap name of the band. Boyzone doesn’t have the same ring to it as Take That does it? Boyzone are a great example of how the hot ones at school don’t stay the hottest and often the ones that were kind of wierd turn into the sexy things as adults (i.e. Keith from Boyzone and Jason from Take That). Or is it my tastes changing as I grow up? Who knows.
Anyway, here’s the video, it’s a great little pop song. I hope they have more up their sleeves…. it’s quite pleasant having Ronan Keating back in my life.
Girls Aloud – The Promise video, Jordin Sparks – Tattoo & Kanye West – Love Lockdown
September 26, 2008
I love my job, particularly when it’s mental like this week. But it means more time devoted to working late and less time to popblogging. So sorry about my lack of attention this week, this combined with a cold has been sending me home to bed early instead of blogging. ![]()
This weeks Radio 1 playlist is all about the new additions on the C-list, Upfront list stays static this week.
* Bloc Party [d/l : 20/10] Talons
* The Game feat. Lil Wayne My Life
* Girls Aloud [d/l : 27/10] The Promise
* The Last Shadow Puppets My Mistakes Were Made For You
* Jordin Sparks Tattoo
* Kanye West Love Lockdown
I LOVE Kanye West. I even want the glasses. But I don’t get Love Lockdown. Please tell me what I’m missing. Check it out here:
More Girls Aloud loveliness here with the new video for ‘The Promise’. Definitely going on my play pile, but maybe not quite as high as Sugababes ‘Girls’?
Jordin Sparks – Tattoo gets an addition this week too. My first thought about this track was that it reminded me of the mid 90’s. But isn’t it about time we had that 90’s pop revival everyone’s been talking about. I’m all for it.
Britney – Womanizer & M.I.A – Paper Planes
September 23, 2008
So Britney’s new album is called ‘Circus’ and the track ‘Womanizer’ leaked onto the net over the last few days – here’s the 45 second clip that’s leaked onto You Tube:
Sounds very much like the tracks from her current album ‘Blackout’. But definitely interesting.
Metallica stay at #1 this week on the album chart – surely Kings Of Leon will knock them off the top spot this week?
Mia is #1 of the Shazam chart this week with Paper Planes, it’s a re-release of a fab track which will hopefully drive more attention this time around.
